Virginia Installs Colorblind-Friendly Viewfinders in State Parks

Virginia State Parks have introduced special viewfinders with special lenses for colorblind visitors. These devices help individuals with red-green color blindness to see a wider range of colors, especially enhancing the reds and oranges of autumn leaves. The devices will be installed across all 43 state parks, and the initiative aims to make outdoor experiences more inclusive, giving colorblind visitors the chance to fully enjoy Virginia’s natural beauty.

The program started in 2023 and received positive feedback, expanding this year to more parks. Colorblind visitors now have access to these viewfinders at various scenic overlooks. The initiative reflects a growing trend in parks to offer more accessible and inclusive options for all visitors.

These viewfinders are part of a larger effort by Virginia State Parks to enhance visitor experience and promote outdoor recreation. By embracing technology that caters to specific needs, the parks ensure everyone can appreciate the vibrant colors of the autumn foliage, fostering a more welcoming environment for diverse audiences.
